Thanks to Scott Sheldrake for this fascinating glimpse inside a Diesel Chevette engine (probably) just before a timing belt lets go ! Scott was very fortunate to have changed this belt probably just in time. Very few engines survive a timing belt letting go, and are usually severely damaged as a result of the belt breaking.

As you can see from the pictures, this belt was probably within days of snapping, and ruining an engine ! I was almost disappointed when I replaced two belts, and they appeared to have many years left in them. I'm quite sure Scott was more than relieved to have found this just in time. |
